Lincolnshire Quest

A Modern Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, there existed a group of people who would stop at nothing in their search of a good time, the wilder and wackier the activity, the better, especially if it involved lots of food and drink and riotous parties! These people really knew how to live life to the full. So, who were they and what happened to them? Well, they used to be called 'Grimsby & Cleethorpes 18 Plus', but when members became more 'plus than 18', it was felt that it was time to move on and the group closed.

All fairy tales should have a happy ending, but this story doesn't, because it isn't over yet - these people are still here, only they're called 'Lincs Quest', targeting those aged 36 and over…. and we celebrated our 20th birthday in September. Starting with just 5 members in 2002, the group has gone from strength to strength, with a membership now of over 70. The success of the group has been recognised at National level, being awarded the President’s Trophy for best group overall in the country for the last 10 years.

The bizarre excesses of youth may have given way to more 'grown up' activities, but we still believe in enjoying ourselves. We have a good mix of members, singles and couples, male and female, from all walks of life, with ages ranging from 30s to 60s with an upper age limit to join of 65, although membership can continue after that age.

A full programme of events awaits anyone who wishes to join and activities have included theatre and cinema trips, ghost walks, bowling, hiking, quizzes, boat trips, days out,  themed parties and barbecues, not to mention archery and gliding and holidays.  Fund-raising from charity also plays and important part in our programme and, again, our efforts have been recognised at national level by being awarded the National Charities Trophy.

On the Wednesday meeting nights, we enjoy a variety of light-hearted quizzes or games, played in teams and nothing too serious!  We also have the occasional speaker.  After the evening’s event, we take names for the weekend activities; we usually have events on a Saturday and Sunday, and often other nights of the week too – you will never be bored!

So, if you are from the Lincolnshire area and you want to make new friends, have fun and take part in new activities in a friendly, easy-going atmosphere, then come along. Whether you choose to take part in all, or just a few events, you will always be made to feel welcome.

Lincs Quest group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month, from 8.30pm at The Holiday Inn Express, 3-9 Welllowgate, Grimsby DN32 0RA.
