Southampton
Southampton Friends is a fab and friendly way to meet people in the area. If you are 18-35 years and live, study and or work in Southampton or the surrounding area and wish to expand your social life and make new friends by taking part in various activities then come and meet us one Wednesday and see what we are all about. Southampton Friends is run by its members for its members and is not-for-profit. We have 32 members from all sorts of backgrounds and professions.
We meet most Wednesdays at the Slug & Lettuce bar in Southampton fondly called our Club Night for a chilled out drink and chat. On the last week of the month we meet on a Thursday for our "Play Away" Club Night where we visit on rotation various cocktail/vodka bars and restaurants taking advantage of 2-4-1 offers in the city.
We have a fabulous calendar of events and our principle ethos is to have fun! We get up to all sorts from pubs, meals, clubs, comedy, theatre, cinema, bowling, badminton, gigs, festivals, museums, exhibitions, walks, DVD nights, singstar, Sunday lunches, in fact the list is endless. We are quite an adventurous group with Archery, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Go Ape, Zorbing, Playzone, Ringos, Water Sports, New Forest Cycling, Theme Parks, Karting, Beach BBQ and a Hog Roast in the Park on this years calendar too!
We are aware of the credit crunch and take advantage of 2-4-1 offers, which includes visits to theme parks, theatre, Orange Wednesday, and various restaurants and promotional cocktail nights in the bars in town. Moreover, from time to time we run a new members promotional month in March, "March Madness" where membership for new people to our club is at a discounted price as well as an Early Bird renewal scheme for members renewing on time, membership for the year works out at less than 60p a week.
Meeting new people for the first time can be daunting but we are a very relaxed chilled friendly group of people. The Echo newspaper have featured us and said we are "a charming set of people, who clearly go out of their way to make new people feel welcome, both to their group and to the city as a whole. Making friends isn't as difficult as some people might believe, you just have to know where to look" .
So, whether you are new to the City or if you've been here a while and if this all sounds good fun to you then please get in touch!

Fancy taking part in the Southern Area Hedge Hop?
Each SA
Club is encouraged to put a team together to take part in this barmy event. Single participants from different Clubs can join up to make a team too.
The Hedge Hop is a team event (3 - 4 people per team and each Club can have more than one team) which involves a 4 mile timed walk/jog along country roads in the dark. It starts at 6.30pm and along the route there are clues to answer. If that sounds easy enough, there will be spotters in cars patrolling the route. If they spot any of the team members you get a time penalty. (Hence why it's called a hedgehop!) Once you are back at the pub there will be a buffet (provided by Southern Area).
Where? The Coronation Arms, St Mary, Bourne nr Andover SP11 6AR
How much? £1 per person
Please do support this - it's a lot of fun!

Okay so it isn't everyones cuppa tea, but whilst at High School Musical 2 it was being shown on the large screen in the bar, much to the bemusement of many 8 year olds in cheer-leader outfits! And we thought to ourselves "hell, why not????!!!!!"

Girlie Meal & Wine

Hiya lovely ladies,
We thought it would be a nice idea to go for a girlie meal and a glass (or bottle) of wine :)
We are going to go to the Village Inn. The food is basic and cheap (there is a wide selection) and is very good (I've not yet had a bad meal), the pub is nice (although not that big) and child free.
I am not planning on too much organisation for this evening, like booking a table, mainly cos I don't think you can without sorting out depositis etc. The idea is just a girlie get together. Obviously if there are a lot of us going we will need to split up into smaller groups but I am sure we can swap around between main and dessert (which are yummy esp the trio of desserts where you get to nibble 3 different ones!).
You can decide at the last minute whether you are able to make it but it would be nice to have a rough idea of how many of us hope to make it so those that get to the pub first can scout for a suitable area to sit. We don't mind whether it ends up just a small group it would just be nice to go out for a chilled evening, a meal and a few glasses of wine.
Don't worry if you can't make it as I am sure we will be doing this more often :) and maybe consider accepting the odd honorary girl in future :P
