IMPORTANT NEWS

Dear fellow Plusser

1. WASH IS BACK TO IT'S TRADITIONAL WEEKEND - BONFIRE WEEKEND

2. PLEASE READ THE STATEMENT BELOW

Last year we had 176 attend WASH compared with 229 in 2008. Following our
de-briefing meeting with the management of Searles we feel it only fair to
bring each and every one of you up-to-date with the situation .

The situation is that Searles have told us that it is uneconomic to continue
with an attendance such as last years, and as such in order to run this
years event we are having to 'guarantee' 250 beds are booked, particularly
as Searles are now taking bookings for the venue all year round.

Our research has shown that the vast majority of members wish to keep WASH
as it is at Searles'. To this end we have negotiated that we will 'buy'
the balance of accommodation not booked by yourselves. For example, if 190
people attend WASH this year we will have to 'buy' 60 berths.

This will come from WASH reserves AND CAN BE DONE FOR ONE YEAR ONLY as this
will effectively drain our reserves. If we get sufficient bookings WASH
will continue next year as we will have the funds intact, but if not this
really will be the last WASH.

In order that we can have a better idea of roughly how much we are going to
have to take from WASH reserves we would ask for your help in getting
deposits in as early as possible. We will be sending out all the paperwork
at the end of March instead of the usual June, so this gives you more time.
If anyone needs to book individually please contact us and we can sort
something out.

We will keep everyone updated as to bookings numbers by personal e-mails
where we have them, the one-list and on Facebook's WASH Appreciation page.

Kings Lynn Plus Midsummer Party Weekend

Time to descend once again on the quiet village in Norfolk that is Tottenhill to pitch tents and take up residence in the playing field/village hall for the weekend!

Come and join us for the weekend, or just for the Saturday night BBQ/Disco. Also incorporates the National Rounders competition on the Saturday afternoon. "Beers of Europe" beer warehouse is just a few minutes away, as is the beautiful Norfolk countryside for you to visit if that is your thing.

Area Training Day

Anglia and South East Area will be holding a Training Day. This will cover a number of skills which are important for office-holders within Plus, and have a wider application as well.

From Sharon Law, the new Training Officer for Anglia & South East Area:

"My intention is to look at skills such as assertiveness, effective communication and team work and then to split into groups relating to the positions on group and area commitees. Kerry Mann - the new PRO for Anglia & South East - will be looking at effective ways of publicity across groups and across the area."

Timetable for the Day

Timetable for the day:

10.30 to 11.00 will be tea, biscuits and registration.

11.00 to 12.00 First session: general skills - depending on numbers may be split in to two groups. This will look at effective communication, assertiveness and team work.

1200 to 1215 Break

12.15 to 13.15 get into groups - this will be related to positions on group and area commitee.

13.15 to 13.30 feedback and what groups would like training fro in future events.

Directions:

By car - up Ilford Lane from Ilford: turn right half way up in to St Lukes Avenue, turn right into Lowbrook Road and follow into Baxter Road.

By car from Barking: the same except turn in left off of Ilford lane. From Ilford station or Barking station an ELT bus will bring you up Ilford Lane - get off bus just past Japanese Motors and walk up St Lukes Avenue into Lowbrook Road and follow into Baxter Road.

Anglia & South East Area Quiz

It’s that time again, it’s the one and only Anglia & South East Area Plus Quiz Night. The event will take place on the 27th February 2010 at Area Quiz 2010, Holy Trinity Church Hall, Holy Trinity Church, Mossford Green, Barkingside, Ilford, Essex. The price is £7.50 which includes a choice of meals, Fish and Chips, Chicken and Chips or a Vegetarian option. The event starts from 7.30. Anglia & South East Area - AGM results

This is to announce the results of Anglia & South-East Area's AGM. This was actually held on January 24th, although I held off doing a full announcement as we had to fill two committee posts by co-option at our Area Committee Meeting.

The new A&SEA Committee as of 1st March is as follows:

In conclusion, I would like to thank the 2009 - 10 committee for all their hard work, and I wish the new committee every success in the future. Given that I am stepping down as Area Chairman, this also means that I will be stepping down as DNC as well.

Craig is back with us again after his very successful outing at SADY 2009!!

He will be entertaining you all after the meal and trophy presentations at the AGM on Saturday night.

For those of you who don't know, Craig is from Hull and appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2008 making it to the semi-finals.

Brean 2010

Brean 2010A party/reunion weekend in Somerset...

As you may be aware we are later in the year this time round so more will be
open on site, and hopefully the weather will be good.

I have booked a female vocalist who does a tribute to Lilly Allen, Pink, Amy
Winehouse and Lady Gaga so that will be good! Im in negotiations with another band for the Sunday and am toying with taking us all to a pub on the sunday for a quiz and perhaps with some entertainment. (when I say take...it may be a crypic clue and walk to a mystery location.....)

I am also toying with finding some stuff we could do onsite such a a games
console session with wii's and guitar hero etc,,,

National Karting

The almost annual National Karting event will take place at Premier karting, Hawkhurst Stadium, Headley Road East, Woodley, Reading RG5 4SZ.

Cost is £40.50 per driver (if paid in full before 20th January or £45.00 thereafter). Cheques payable to ‘Didcot Eighteen Plus Group’ to arrive no later than 20 January 2010.

This event is open to all members of Plus and Quest Groups.

Thirty Spaces are available.

So, if you fancy being the next Lewis or Lewina why not join in!

This is ideal venuee for individuals but can also be used for team racing. The most popular format of meeting consists of pre-race briefing, practice laps, and then competition against the other driver's in heats, and a main final with the top three drivers of the meeting being awarded trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place.
